update again

Jan. 13th, 2009 | 05:28 pm
mood: amused amused
music: Foo Fighters "Down in the Park"

27 weeks later, I get around to updating....

Two albums are out now that we made over the past few months. It's free for those who want them, just drop a comment for a CDR.

Firstly, under our old TCE project comes another sound collage. This one sources over 102 years of vinyl, and spans over a lot of bits and pieces, from going to the moon, to John Kennedy, to Tiny Tim and Mitch Miller.... it's all in here. "100 years of Records" (no cover uploaded yet)

Second comes an EP under the Lonelyfox (LFX) project. This is the "Kisses EP", which features four mixes, each touching on samples from the original 78 recording of the 1948 soundtrack to Kiss Me Kate. Thinking of opening the floor to let folks remix the original version (which is featured on the CDR)... well, we'll leave that up to you all out there if you want to do that.

All are self released and free upon request.

Lonelyfox featured on Mystified remix album!

Jul. 7th, 2008 | 01:04 pm
mood: artistic artistic
music: this cd

My friend Mystified had this interesting project going, where he opened up one of his albums for remixing. The album in question was "Particular Streams" and can be found here: http://www.brrecords.com/streams.htm

He released already one volume of remixes and now has issued a second volume, which features mixes by the likes of Jon7, CTEPHIN, Phillip Wilkerson and others.

Lonlyfox gives a remix to the track "Bugs in the Basement", toying with crickets and turning them into shivers in a dark dream.

Mystified is compiling material for Volume 3 of the remix project so keep your eyes open for it! It's going to be awesome!.

new cd

location: at the comp!
mood: accomplished accomplished

geeze, i need to update this more!

anyway, finally we have a new CD out. It's a sound collage thing, under the name TCE. it'll be self released, since our old label doesn't want to release anything due to budget issues (yet they release stuff from the label owner...)

so the new album is called "Commercialismas", and it has a lot to do with what the title means.

So this hopefully will make up for the past 5 years of silence from the TCE project. We are still working on the EP's and things so stay tuned.

For copies, just leave me a comment here and we'll send one out.

The origins of pearl jam

Dec. 22nd, 2007 | 11:13 pm
mood: bouncy bouncy
music: Mark Lanegan "Ugly Sunday"

I think by now a lot of you know Pearl Jam members got their start in quite a few influential bands; Green River and Mother Love Bone to be exact.

Poking around the Sub Pop web page, I found that Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam's bassist) was in a hardcore punk band in the early 80's called Deranged Diction. It seems the didn't release an album but their tracks were featured on the compilations "Hardcore Amerika (The Reagan Years 1st Term)" which came out in 2001 on the Bad Compilation Tapes, Schizophrenic Records, and Enterruption labels (combo release).

Kinda amazes me how old he is.

been recording extra long tracks, mostly ambient sound collages.

Been so busy with various mascot work and school that it's been keeping me away from everything on here...

Today for the first time in a while, I've been doing my ritualistic net prowling for obscure grunge rock. Quite by accident this time, I found a nice pile of stuff, artists off compilations who only put out a few singles. I have to wonder what they sound like and what ever happened to them. I think the fact that they never got exposure makes them all the more intriguing.

So here are a few bands I found today and would like to know more about:
Motorhoney (Fastbacks side project)
Big Satan Inc.
Hammerbox

still digging around for more

music: Green Jelly "Cerreal Killer"

we'll, looks like I've let this journal slide for way too long. Sorry bout that.

Been making music every so often, mostly darker ambient. Though after a move to a new house, I've misplaced half of the mics and such so things aren't moving very fast.

I've been hired by a local radio station (89.1 the Point, Brockport, NY) at my new school to be a DJ, hosting my own specialty show and doing a few sports writing things. As for that specialty show, I'll be playing just about anything and everything, showing the more eclectic sounds of music, from Seattle grunge, to industrial, from indie rock, to ambient, from drum'n'bass to sound collage...etc...

I should have an addy for the station sooner or later, but for now, I'll just have things sent to my home address, which i can provide through email (lonelyfox_music@yahoo.com subject "radio show")

work has been ok, still doing mascot gigs left and right for the Sharks and games at the 'Dogs in Batavia. I have a "Dogs gigg this afternoon and that should be all right. Just kinda tired though.....

BTW, Mystified's remix of She's the Hunter's going on this one. Check that track out.

rock it

Oct. 29th, 2006 | 08:58 pm
mood: L7 L7 "Andres"

man, i've been gone for quite some time... I've had no energy at all lately and it's been that way since school had started. It's kinda annoying. no matter how much sleep i get, it's never enough.

it's been a while, and I've got some music done, which i'll have posted soon, along with maybe a cd or something on Raw Frog via TCE.

Been applying left and right to various sports teams in Rochester for mascot jobs and I'm a back up Moose for a hockey team (which doesn't do much) and the nighthawk for an indoor lacrosse team in the NLL, and I have an interview Tuesday for the Razorshark basketball team... i have my fingers crossed for that job, i'd really like it.

and my search for grunge rock never ends, and it never ceases to amaze me how many folks played in tons of different bands...

For example: Mark Arm: Started out in Mr/ Epp in the early 80's (put out one single and a compilations), formed Green River as the vocalist, played in Mudhoney once they disbanded, played in the Thrown Ups, and Monkeywrench. Mark's still in Mudhoney to this date.

Members of Cat Butt played in the U-Men, Mudhoney and Sinister Six.

Members of Green River played in Thrown Ups, Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog and Pearl Jam.

go figure heh. So my want list is huge for just that genre. If anyone out there has anything I'm looking for, please let me know!

Cat butt "Journey to the Center of..." (vinyl only)
Mr Epp "Yes, I'm Happy, why?" (7" sing) "Ridiculing the Apocalypse" cd
Mother Love Bone (anything)
Green River (anything) (i have one single already)
U-Men (anything pre 1990)

Raw Frog Records

Oct. 16th, 2006 | 04:16 pm
mood: awake awake
music: Supreme Beings of Leisure "Strange Love Addiction"

arf arf

Well, the bro and I started our own record label. A very VERY small label at that (hey, we're young and not making any money here). We don't have a web page yet, tho i might get one on furtopia.

Our label is called Raw Frogs, and originally it was meant to release home brewed music, like some of the stuff I've posted here. There'd only be a limited amount of copies via CDr, say max 25 per pressing depending on how much cash we have at the time.

HOWEVER...

I've been thinking of doing various artist comps, and letting folks release some of their stuff (like either a single, EP or full album) on a CDr (or a cd-3 inch if we have the cash for those). There'd be a limited amount of copies per pressing, say between 15 to 25.

How much would we sell them for? 8$ for an Album, 5$ for an EP, and 3$ for a single.

How much will you make off this?
You get full profit. You only pay us the cost of the CDr's.

How mcuh will this cost you? Not much, only the cost of the CDr's. I'll have that info when i have enough cash to buy my own.

Will you get an Artist Copy? Yep, usually one or two copies, or more, depending on the size of your band, one per member. Sorry bout this, we both have to make some cash on this some how. Can't give them all out for free.

Formats acceptable for submission?
CD, CDr, CD-3, tape cassette, Mp3's only

Genres accetped?
Any and all. Just tell us so we know what we're looking at.

What about a contract?
You don't have to sign anything. This is something neither of us is going to make a ton of money off of, and hence it's not the prime objective here. The label is a place for artists to release their music to sell to make a few bucks yeah, but to also get some exposure. You're free to make whatever kind of music you want, when you want it, with no pressure from us. If you want to hop aboard our merry little label, just say "hey, can i join?" and all you have to do then is keep in touch and send us material once in a while, and let us know when/how you want it put out. If you get bored and decide you don't want to do this any more, or if you get signed elsewhere, just let us know you're heading out, we'll send you back the unsold copies of your material, and that will be that. I promise, no lawsuits for leaving, coz that's lame. This is a label for you.

Who sells our stuff?
We'll sell it from here, but you'll get the profit. Need any copies for an upcoming show to sell? Let us know, we'll get a batch going

What if there is demand for more of our albums but they are already sold out?
relax, we'll do a second pressing, or a third, or however how many. It will be between 10 and 25 copies each pressing.

How much do you charge for making more copies?
Again, not much, just the cost of the CDr's.

What about radio air play?
Good question. Where we live, their are two local college stations who play everything as long as it's radio friendly, and they're usually begging for folks to send in material. Also, their's the online radio show, The Fox Den hosted by me, and I play everything, Air play costs you nothing, but you might get a lot to gain. Please note that I only play songs with your permission. Please ask if you want me to play it (i.e., like which songs you'd think would best promote the album, or whtever you want to have played).

If you air our stuff on the Fox Den, will you advertise our new release?
Yes, and for free too.

You have a webpage?
Not yet, but I'm looking into getting one on Furtopia. I have two LJ's, one geared to music only and where i post the radio shows, and a blogger. I will post artists info on the user info pages on LJ and post entries for your upcoming releases.

Contact info?
best way of reaching me is thru my yahoo account:
lonelyfox_music@yahoo.com

from there i can give you addresses for submitting material.

uhhh... yeah, can't think of much else to say now

let me know what y'all think.

hope to hear from yall soon,

wiped out

Jul. 21st, 2006 | 02:50 pm
mood: blah blah
music: Recurring Dreams of the Urban Myth "Loop 6"

it's just been uber hard as of late to do anything music related. I have a new job as a mascot working at the minor league baseball team in Batavia and while the season is half as long as it would be if i were back in Frederick, it still zaps all of my energy so by the time i get home, i have no desire to want to stay up to record something.

So that's partly why Fox Den 7 hasn't been uploaded, or finished for that matter. I need to go back in and edit it anyway before i do anything anyway.

In other news, Keith and I have been recording tracks (when i'm not dead tired from parading around in a doggie mascot suit) for a few new ambient projects slated for some limited releases via or own label, Raw Frogs. The projects due out... whenever are Do You Have a Quarter vol 1 and Cauliflower, vol 1. Each project will, or at least should have a slightly different sound. Do You Have a Quarter has a more raw edged experimental feel, while Cauliflower is more flowing ambience.

Some other projects are in the works but no details are available yet... mainly coz we haven't thought of them yet.

fox sniffing around

Jul. 15th, 2006 | 08:46 pm
mood: calm calm
music: Organic Cloud "Chill In Chill Out"

trying to find ambient material off of the Fax +49-69/450464 record label. Problem is that the majority off it is limited eidtions and out of print and thusly expensive.

But what also gets me is the complete lack of information that even the label's webpage gives me. I want sound samples, or at least a pic of the album cover and a vivid description of what it sounds like.

There are quite a few albums that are on the label which Namlook has done with other artists that i'm dying to know about, like the Fires of Ork project he did with Biosphere. The name alone sounds intersting.

Along those lines that have peaked my interest are Shadows of Orion, Air (1-6 i think..?), Modula Green and a few others. I'd settle for downloads if i had too if they were free.
